Sophie Snell

Sophie is our Chair. Sophie is a full-time professional storyteller. Based in Derby, she travels throughout the UK and beyond with her work and loves telling for both adults and children. She has a warm, engaging and expressive style of telling and she performs at festivals, clubs, libraries, schools, tourist attractions and arts centres. In November 2010, she was invited to Ireland for the Co Wexford "Stories from the Hearth" Storytelling Festival 2010. Her show "Seven Deadly Sins" was nominated for two awards at the Buxton Festival Fringe 2010 and will be featuring at the Chipping Campden Literature Festival, May 2011. Damien Barker

Damien is Secretary and a recent graduate of Derby University with a BA (hons) in Creative Writing and Media Writing. Damien studied his dissertation in Contemporary Storytelling and was also a student of Ray Greenoaken in Spoken Word! The hub of Derby University's storytelling society, Damien's repertoire of stories is growing and he is an enthusiastic follower of the storytelling scene. John Fearon

John is Treasurer for the group and works as a manager for BT. With a longstanding, abiding love of storytelling and his rich, vibrant Newcastle accent, he particularly enjoys telling tales from his original home county of Tyne & Wear. John is known for his lively rendition of The Lampton Worm in particular! He has recently been appointed one of the official UK Olympics 2012 Storytellers, working with a team of other storytellers to record the events and experiences of the Olympics! Roy Dyson

Roy is one of the original Flying Donkeys, having set up the group along with a number of other storytelling clubs around the East Midlands over the years. A very experienced promoter, and a retired teacher, Roy is a wonderful storyteller himself, with a particular interest in the traditional folk arts.
